Lessons from Defeat
今回は「敗北から学ぶもの」というタイトルで英文エッセイを書きました。チェスと英語学習の共通点についても述べています。
Nobody likes the bitter taste of being defeated repeatedly, but sometimes that’s what’s needed to grow—so I tell myself. Of course, I’m talking about chess, where you battle with your 16 pieces to claim victory over your opponent. More often than not, though, I end up being beaten by my opponent—a ruthless computer. I really want to win, but I frequently lose and almost feel like crying.
This experience helps me cultivate empathy for my students, who work tirelessly to tackle challenging English texts. I need to point out where they can improve, offering them hints and encouragement along the way. The worst thing you can do is give up because you hate losing. The only way to move forward is to keep going, despite occasional defeats, and that’s how you eventually savor the sweet taste of victory.
本日(12月20日)も積極的な氣持ちでがんばります!(笑)
