夢の中で経験したある感覚とは？

一昨日(2024年11月26日)見た夢をもとに、英文エッセイを書いてみました。夢の中には、子どもの頃に乗った山口県立博物館の屋外展示の蒸気機関車が登場します。ところで、この夢にはある特徴がありました。それは何でしょう？

I smelled something in my dream—a distinct smell of a steam locomotive. It reminded me of the one parked right outside the Prefectural Museum in Yamaguchi City, which I hopped on numerous times during my childhood.

In this dream, on the morning of November 26, 2024, the smell tickled my nose as I walked into a club room in a school building, where I met some students. I can’t recall whether I was there as a teacher or a student, but the faint smell of a steam locomotive struck me as odd. Somehow, I made a mental note during the dream, realizing that it was, in fact, a dream—and that I was experiencing the sensation of smell within it.

To retain this unusual memory, I later shared it with my lovely wife over breakfast, describing the smell of the steam locomotive I felt in my dream. I’ve read about people seeing their dreams in color, but apparently, I can also smell in mine. Can you?
