映画『ストーリー・オブ・マイライフ／わたしの若草物語』を観ました

昨日(2020年6月27日)、映画『ストーリー・オブ・マイライフ／わたしの若草物語』(原題: Little Women) を観ましたので、英語で日記風に書いてみました。

Yesterday (June 27, 2020) I went to see Little Women (2019) at MOVIX Shunan with my wife. One of our mutual friends had recommended the movie, and my wife said she would like to watch it. As I had not read the original novel that the movie was based on, I didn’t know what to expect.

In fact, my wife taught me the names of the four March sisters 20 minutes before the movie started, which helped me to keep track of which individual was which sister. Memory aid: Their names in birth order—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—happen to be in reverse alphabetical order.

The movie theater was safe. With only two couples inside, our 210-seat screening room was less than 2% occupied. My wife and I had a  mask on, of course. We even sat with an empty seat between us, following theater safety guidelines.

Little Women goes back and forth in time. Those who don’t know the original story may find the plot line of the movie confusing at first. But the themes that the movie deals with—love, empathy, passion, family, friendship, money and marriage—are tightly woven and create an intricate tapestry of life.

Finally, I liked how Jo writes a story for Beth. We are empowered when we do something for somebody other than ourselves. That’s what their mother shows by example. Only in serving others can our talent truly express its full potential.
