A HOUSE HUSBAND?!

One of my dreams is to become a house husband. I don’t mind cleaning the house, doing the dishes, taking out the garbage and doing the laundry. In other words, I am quite handy around the house. Recently I have taken up cooking as well, so that I can become the best house husband that ever lived.

When I visited my parents in Yamaguchi last Saturday, they gave me several potatoes and onions they had grown themselves. So, on Monday, when I had a day off, I decided to use a potato and an onion as ingredients, get some pork, and prepare a pork dish. Pork is rich in vitamins, minerals, protein and energy and helps you survive the summer heat. Here’s the recipe I invented.

INGREDIENTS (2 servings):

  • 150g pork, chopped
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 potato, cooked and diced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • salt, pepper and garlic

PREPARATION:

  1. Cover the potato with microwave safe plastic wrap and microwave it for several minutes until it is soft. Peal the potato and dice it into small pieces. This reduces the cooking time.
  2. Stir fry the chopped pork in a frying pan. You may not have to grease the pan because pork provides fat.
  3. Add the sliced onion and sauté it with the pork until it is soft and golden.
  4. Add the diced potatoes and grated ginger and cook until heated through.
  5. Taste and adjust the seasonings.

Admittedly I am not the best cook around, but it only took me about twenty minutes to prepare this pork dish. Not only did I enjoy the process of cooking, but I also enjoyed the product of my hard work. Although I cannot guarantee the same result, you may want to try this recipe and taste the joy of cooking, too.

By the way, on the day I prepared this dish, I was so absorbed in it that it was quite a surprise at dinner time when I opened the lid of my rice cooker and found rice uncooked and submerged at the bottom. I had forgotten to switch on my rice cooker! Being a flexible person, I didn’t panic and microwaved some instant spaghetti instead. I don’t know who invented the microwave oven, but I thanked that person in my heart.

I hope I get to cook some other dishes in my free time and experiment a lot with food. I am serious about becoming an outstanding house husband. Maybe it will happen, maybe not.
